The Sherpa’s of Solukhumbu observe a number of festival like Losar (Sherpa New Year), Manirimdu, Dumji, Buddha Jayanti (Birth day of Lord Buddha), Tukpa Chhechi, Nyuingne and Homi Cho (Dhudkunda) Mela. Dumji is a great cultural festival in Sherpa community in which the whole community takes part. The responsibility for organizing this culture / religious ceremony falls on every household approximately once every six or ten years. The main purpose of Dumji is twofolds, to request various gods’ and goddesses’ help in subduing the demonic enemies of the village, and to celebrate the anniversary of the death of the patron saint Lama Sanga Dorji.
Among these festivals Dumji is considered as one of the most important of the Solukhumbu. It is annually observed at all mazor monastery in april / June. We provide a guide familiar with this festival as the itinerary is combined with three days Dumji celebration and Tyangboche monastery where we can visit with Chawi Lama (Rimpoche) who is highest Rimpoche of among the Sherpa Lama. There are close up views of Mt. Khangtega, Amadablam, the Thamserku including Mt. Everest and Lottse.
