Driving from Kathmandu to Lhasa, across the vast Tibetan plateau, a stark landscape of holy lakes, hidden caves, clustered mud-house villages, and wildlife inhabited pastures demands exploration. The highway leaves Nepal's valleys behind as it passes over the Himalaya and on to the Tibetan moonscape. The 1000km drive crosses several passes upward of 5000m. In route to Lhasa, with overnight stays and sightseeing at Shegar and a side trip to Shakya Monastery, Shigastse, we will visit the famous Tashilunpo Monastery, the former seat of the Panchen Lama and Gyangstse overnight, visit Kumbum Monastery, drive to Lhasa on the way viewing Turquit Lake. You will spend three days in Lhasa touring in the Lhasa.
